Sun, sea and sand.

Pretty seaside towns, beautiful sandy beaches and lots of fun activities to suit all ages. The sunny Charente-Maritime is a favourite family holiday destination.

Searching for a family holiday that won’t break the bank, is easy to get to and has plenty of sun, sea and sand? Then the sunny Charente-Maritime in south west France is your ideal destination. Beautiful seaside villages of Saint Georges de Didonne, Talmont, Meschers sur Gironde and Royan. The picturesque islands of Ile de Re and Ile d’Oleron. All these are at the top of the favourite family holiday destination list. And they are all only a short drive from Bel-Air Gites.

Along with the French Riviera, this region is renowned for having one of the most pleasant climates in France. Thanks to its unique micro-climate we have long, hot summers and really mild winters. Average daily temperatures during mid-winter are a mild 9 or 10 °C, whereas in July and August it can often exceed 25 °C. With an average of 2250 hours every year the area is second only to the Cote d’Azur in terms of the amount of sun it gets.

Just north of Royan, the Côte Sauvage is perfect for surfing and body-boarding. It starts near La Palmyre, north of Royan, and stretches north-west around the point at La Tremblade. It’s very popular with surfers, but if you don’t fancy going in the sea there are also boat trips, cycle paths and horse-rides on the beach. You need to be aware though that the beaches on the Côte Sauvage are not always patrolled by lifeguards. So yours and your family’s safety is your responsibility.

The beautiful sandy beaches of Meschers and Royan (Grand Conche, Chay and Pontailliac beaches) are just a 20 minute drive from Bel-Air Gites. There is every kind of beach imaginable, from the pretty cove at Meschers, to the sweeping, white, sandy beaches, (up to 3 kms long) at St George and Royan. Le Grande Conche are Royan is especially ideal for families as it has an area especially set up for children with a variety of beach activities. There is surfing at St Palais and even a very discrete naturist beach in the locale. The most popular beaches do have lifeguards on duty and safe swimming area are clearly marked with flags.

So, whatever your preference we have over 30 kms of sandy beaches on our doorstep where you can relax, take a picnic or enjoy a family day out. What are you waiting for? Book with us today and have the family holiday of a lifetime.
