You are relaxing by the pool and the kids are having fun, splashing around and playing games in the water with their new friends.
We have a large, fully-enclosed, heated swimming pool with a child safety lock. It’s heated, so you can enjoy a swim even on cooler days. And the child safety lock means that you can relax, safe in the knowledge that they can’t accidentally get into the pool area without you, or go wandering off ‘exploring’ on their own. Temperatures here can reach 29 degrees during high season and that’s when the pool is a wonderful place to cool down. With stacks of children’s pool toys on site – noodles, soft volley balls and diving toys – it means you don’t need to bring them all with you. If any of your children, especially toddlers, are not used to the water then we do recommend that you bring flotation rings or arm-bands with you so that they stay safe in the pool at all times.
Dining ‘al fresco’
The high summer day-time temperatures in the Charente-Maritime mean that even in the evenings it’s warm enough to sit outside. Each gite has it’s own private patio area with BBQ, and comfortable garden furniture. Your private patio is the perfect place to sit out and enjoy a glass of chilled wine while watching the sun slowly setting across the fields. The summer days are practically cloud-free which means the night time is too. And there’s nothing better than sitting out gazing at a star-filled sky, waiting to catch a glimpse of a shooting star. Don’t forget to make a wish.
Al fresco comes from the Italian word meaning ‘fresh or open air’. In temperate climates, al fresco dining is especially popular in the summer months when temperatures and weather are most favourable. It is a style of dining that is casual and often party-like in its atmosphere
If you want to take in some French culture and shop for the freshest ingredients for your barbecue the local markets are the best places to go. Royan market has an excellent selection of fresh, local produce and is open 7 days a week from 7am-1pm. It really is a gastronomic experience with its huge selection of stalls selling fruit and veg, meats, local cheeses, seafood, bread and gateaux. Get there before 10 o’clock and you will see this wonderful market at its bustling best, with the locals out to buy, not just fresh fruit and vegetables, but also the best seafood ‘catch of the day’.
Spend quality time together…
Bel-Air is surrounded by acres of unspoilt countryside, characterised by fields of sunflowers and vineyards, and we want you to feel like this is your home-from-home. On site there is something for everyone. We have created a brilliant games room, where you’ll find lots of toys, games and activities suitable for adults and children. It is the perfect place to shelter on a rare rainy day or if the sun gets too much for the little ones – or BIG ones! The spacious Bel-Air gardens have also been designed with families in mind and are a fun and safe haven for children of all ages to play out all day and make new friends.
If you want a day at the beach then the beautiful sandy beaches of Meschers and Royan (Grand Conche, Chay beach, Pontailliac beach) are just a 20 minute drive away from Bel-Air Gites. There are pretty cove beaches at Meschers and long, white sandy beaches at St George and Royan. There’s even surfing at St Palais. With over 30 kms of sandy beaches on your doorstep you’re sure to find the perfect one for you and your family.
There are no extra charges for towels, cots, high-chairs or any of the other toddler and baby essentials so you don’t need to bring them.
We’ve taken the stress out of having to pack all your baby equipment. At Bel-Air Gites we have a number of cots, high-chairs, pushchairs, potties, trainer toilet seats, bouncers and steriliser bags. There’s lots of other baby and toddler equipment available too, at no extra charge. Just let us know in advance what you will need and we’ll make sure these are available for the length of your stay. And as we have at least 2 of most things we can even accommodate families who are travelling with twins.
All towels, including beach towels, are also provided at no extra charge.
So you have plenty of space to bring just the essentials, which means going home you should have some room available for a couple of bottles of fabulous wine. Or maybe it will be a bottle of the local Pineau des Charentes to remind you of your perfect family holiday at Bel-Air Gites.
Just imagine you are relaxing by the pool and the kids are having fun…
